Mainstream media and mainstream sources -- Bill Gross for example -- are starting to realize that we have a problem. While this Reuters article does an adequate job of outlining the problem with the economy, the solutions are weak. They want to simply tweek a failed model. A sustainable solution means we must move away from the consumer society. Our education system, the way we work, and the way we live must be altered dramatically. Based on my research, this will entail a shift to vertically-integrated organizations. While the foundation for these organizations can be different, I prefer a foundation that is based on integral research. I also believe that quality, independence, and ethics* are important and would want to be surrounded by those who feel the same way. The design of the society/organization would be such that it would attract those who share these values. While "societies" have existed for millennia -- National Geopgraphic Society, for example -- few, if any, have integrated work, education, and lifestyle.
* My current favorite definition is the one provided by Joseph Needham in "Time: The Refreshing River": "Ethics are the rules whereby men may live together in society with the utmost harmony and the best opportunities for the development of their talents in the common good."
