A recommended book.
I found that I could relate to the following:
There are some changes you can make in your life that are not fully subject to the adaptation principle, and that might make you lastingly happier. It may be worth striving to achieve them. [p.92]
The first three (out of 5) that the author lists are:
Noise: "Noise, especially noise that is variable or intermittent, interferes with concentration and increases stress."
Commuting: "Even after years of commuting, those whose commutes are traffic-filled still arrive at work with higher levels of stress hormones."
Lack of control: "One of the active ingredients of noise and traffic, the aspect that helps them get under your skin, is that you can't control them."
Check out or buy a copy to find out what numbers 4 and 5 are. The copy I read came from the Washington State University Library -- Spokane location. Please note that you do not have to be a student to get a library card at most of the college libraries (WSU, EWU, SFCC, Gonzaga, I don't know about Whitworth) in Spokane. Gonzaga costs $25 per year. The rest are free.
