TED prize winners are given three wishes. In the above linked videos, Armstrong and Burtynsky describe their three wishes. Is it possible to start a campaign that will encompass all of their wishes and the wishes of all the TED prize winners? I think so. We need to start a campaign to actually build sustainable infrastructure throughout the world. The template is described on this blog.
Briefly, we need to build campuses that are funded by patrons who have access to the infrastructure through a reservation system that is based on seniority and funding commitments. The campuses are operated by in-residence, independent scholars who commit to 20 hours of labor per week in exchange for room, board, healthcare, and a small stipend for clothing. Living quarters are approximately 500 s.f. and gourmet kitchens are dispersed throughout the campus along with gardens that supply as much of the produce as is feasible. We can start with a campaign where those interested in sustainable living can subscribe for amounts of $25 and higher. Perhaps TED could be the interim trustee for the funds?
Later... I justed watched another session: Sir Ken Robinson. Highly recommended and germaine to the idea described above.
