Someone linked to this article at another blog. I attempted to post a response but comments were closed. My response follows:
Growing up in environments that provided less freedom than has existed on and off in this country seems to cause individuals to become ideologues. Ayn Rand is a case in point. The author of this piece seems to be another. I can read the work of Ayn Rand and get something out of it, but if it is my sole source of ideas I am viewing the world through a filter. This is not a good thing for democracy and/or liberty. By the same token, if I only read the WSJ's opinion column or only listen to Rush Limbaugh or only read the NY Times, I am also limiting my ability to make sense of the world in an integral way. The perfect candidate does not exist. The key is to back someone who has the potential to draw wisdom from many sources.
